Alpha/Theta training after combat trauma

Randomized controlled study · 29 Vietnam veterans

What the study found

Fifteen veterans received an Alpha/Theta training program and 14 received traditional care. After thirty 30-minute sessions, the training group improved across a range of psychological symptom scales. The authors reported fewer recurrences of combat-related nightmares and flashbacks during a 30-month follow-up.

The Alpha/Theta protocol

The program used Alpha/Theta EEG feedback with preparatory relaxation and temperature biofeedback. This is direct research in combat-related PTSD; the program included several therapeutic components, and its findings concern that specific trauma population.
